Folkestone: Police officers are inquiring over an alleged theft from a jewellers

A shop manager managed to catch an opportunist who made off with a Rolex from his jewellery shop.

Tony Wade, the manager of A Simmonds in Sandgate Road, Folkestone, said a man had been browsing the store for 15 minutes, before grabbing the expensive watch and making a run for it.

He said: “He decided to run but he wasn’t getting away from me."

The chase started at the jewellers and ended at the Road of Remembrance, just around the corner.

Mr Wade managed to grab the Rolex which has been returned to his shop.

He said: “He then jumped in a car and drove off."

The police were called at 11.35am and officers were at the scene for more than an hour.

Nobody was hurt during the incident.

An appeal has since been released with a description.

The appeal said: "The suspect is described as a white man aged in his early 20s, around 6ft tall and well-built.

"He had short blonde hair and was wearing a white t-shirt, skinny jeans and black trainers."
