Parents and pupils will be fighting their corner to save Pent Valley College again this morning.

A crunch meeting by KCC's scrutiny cabinet is being held at County Hall in Maidstone again today after the decision to shut the school was called in.

Protesters will be again lobbying before the meeting before two representatives from the Save Pent Valley group address the meeting.

Labour leader Cllr Gordon Cowan made the decision to call it in the day after education cabinet member Cllr Roger Gough approved a recommendation on February 23.

Parent Jo Fishlock told KentOnline sister paper the Folkestone and Hythe Express: "There are so many people behind keeping this school open that still couldn't understand it.

"Even from the money side it would cost more to close it than keep it open."

She said it was a feeling of "anger" around the plans.

"Don't put kids education over money. It's their education which is the most important" - Jo Fishlock

"I can't believe how corrupt the whole thing looks. Everything is papered over the cracks to make it look easy from the outside.

"All the councillors around here don't want it to close."

The group are in Maidstone sitting in the meeting and trying to lobby the scrutiny meeting.

Mrs Fishlock added: "We're going to ask some questions and hopefully see if we can get some other angles in to show them that some good enough reasons other than what they've looked out for of why Pent Valley should stay open.

"Don't put kids education over money. It's their education which is the most important and the support they need.

"Every pupil in this school loves it. If a student is happy in the school they're at, that's where they're going to learn most."

The meeting will be broadcast live on KCC's website here from 10am.
