Bosses confirm Red Arrows will ‘resume display’ in time for Folkestone Air Show

Fears the beloved Red Arrows could cancel their performance in Kent this weekend have been put to bed, after calling off two events this week.

Due to engineering issues with the Hawk aircraft, displays at Eastbourne International Airshow and Cromer Carnival were cancelled on Wednesday and yesterday by the team.

As a result, it prompted concerns the annual air show at Folkestone – taking place this Sunday – could also be scrapped.

But, bosses at the RAF Red Arrows have reassured residents the planes will “resume flying today”.

On their Facebook page they stated: “Following a pause due to an engineering issue, the Red Arrows will resume display flying today.

“This includes a performance at the Eastbourne International Airshow later this afternoon – which is subject to severe weather forecast on the south coast.

“Please keep checking our social media channels for updates.”

Following announcements that the two other shows had been cancelled, Folkestone residents had feared the worse.

One said on Facebook: "I hope they make it they are the only reason I go every year."

Another said: "Ok - making me nervous, but at this moment, the show goes on..."

Thousands of people are expected to descend on Folkestone for the air show, which will also include the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

A newcomer this year is the RAF Typhoon, which will round off the afternoon with a spectacle of speed, power and agility.

The Leas and Folkestone harbour are expected to again be the busiest viewing spots on the day, which is organised by Folkestone and Hythe District Council.

The timetable, which is subject to change, is as follows:

1.25pm: Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

2.20pm: RAF Red Arrows

3.15pm: Stampe display team

4.10pm: Pitts Special

5pm: RAF Typhoon

The RAF’s Red Arrows team has been performing since 1965, often in their trademark diamond nine shape - although now performing as a formation of eight aircraft.

They have flown almost 5,000 displays in 57 countries.

Folkestone Festivals is organising food, arts and craft stalls, dance displays, live music and a classic car show along The Leas on both Saturday and Sunday.

Additional temporary toilets will also be installed in the area.
