Angry residents have spoken out after leaflets were put through doors attacking the Black Lives Matter movement and saying thousands of illegal immigrants have entered the UK this year.

About eight people from the group For Britain were in Folkestone and Dover today.

The leaflets encourage people to support the group, claiming BLM will "turn Britain into a communist country" and Labour councils will be reviewing monuments, statues and street names in an attack on British heritage.

It also claimed that during lockdown, thousands of people have been ferried across the Channel by Border Force.

Nicole Thomas Wyeth says she swore at a man who put a leaflet through the door of her home in Folkestone .

The 50-year-old was incensed by the content which she felt showed "a lack of heart".

She said: "I just saw red as it's all racist tropes and false information about refugees."

The KCC employee believes it was important to challenge what was being said and people should be more compassionate.

But she admitted it was a free country and they were entitled to have their say, no matter how strongly she disagreed.

A member of the group was said to be filming as they made their way down the road.

Residents also took to the Folkestone Residents' Group on Facebook to voice their unhappiness.

Its chairman, Ed DeMolay, said: "As chairman of the For Britain Party, I find we often have to refute misguided comments about our party, and suspect the comments are made by people confusing us with another group.

"We are an anti-racist party with a diverse membership and leadership team, so I fully reject any charges of ‘racism’, a tired old slur aimed at trying to delegitimise an alternative viewpoint.

"I would urge anyone to read our polices and manifesto if in any doubt about what we stand for.

"The leaflet in question is to draw attention to the published aims of Black Lives Matter UK on their own GoFundMe page – to overthrow capitalism, defund the police and plenty of anti Israel rhetoric – their own words, not ours.

"The truth is, the movement has been hijacked by the hard left - offshoots of the Socialist Workers Party, and we feel it important to increase awareness of this, as the media is doing a poor job of it.

"What may have started as good intentions has become dark and dangerous driven by hatred and anger – and it is vital people wake up to this fact."

Mr DeMolay says members were in Dover because of the recent swell in the number of migrants attempting to cross The Channel.

"We believe it is reckless to allow people to illegally enter the country who we have no idea who they are or their intentions," he said.

"They harm genuine asylum seekers by pushing them to the back of the queue – France and other EU countries are not warzones to flee from."
