Folkestone: A20 exit slip road to the M20 closed after a crash involving a lorry

A road was closed for several hours after a lorry hit safety barriers and brought down a CCTV pole.

The A20 has reopened after the crash at about 2.55am at the Hawkinge junction heading London-bound, which leads to the M20 at Junction 13 near Folkestone.

Pictures posted on social media show damage to the front of the HGV and the pole wedged underneath.

Drivers leaving the Port of Dover had been advised to find alternative routes following the incident, which caused a diesel leak on the road.

Queues stretched back three miles on the carriageway, with congestion back to Capel-le-Ferne.

A local diversion route was put in place on the A20 but all lorries leaving the Port of Dover and heading towards the M25 were urged to use the A2 and M2 instead of the M20.
