The Road of Remembrance is due to reopen on Thursday following a landslip on Saturday evening during the weekend's storm.

Shepway District Council engineers had to organise for a cherry picker to be brought in tomorrow to remove fallen trees meaning the road will hopefully reopen at some point the following day.

The land is privately owned and the council is trying to contact the landowner but sought to clear the damage as an emergency.

Leader of the council, Cllr David Monk, said: "Although this land is not the council’s we know it is of vital importance, so we have assessed the damage and what needs to be done to repair it.

"We will be on the site at 8am on Wednesday, February 19 to make the area safe again, and hope to be able to open the road again on Thursday."

A cherry picker had to be hired to enable the removal of the fallen trees as it was not safe for workers to access it to begin repairs.

The Road of Remembrance has been taped off to both drivers and pedestrians by Kent Highways since Saturday.
