A unique community service system is being developed in Folkestone and Hythe.
Volunteers can offer their time and efforts to someone, and while they won't get paid in cash, they will instead get free goods or services in return.
No money is exchanged at all, it is a timebanking service, with hour-long time credits given out to those who take part.
For example, if someone gives an hour to dig another person's garden they could get an hour's German language tuition for it.
The system can expand among people with the German tutor getting a free meal in return for the time they gave.
The scheme is called Folkesshare, exclusive to the Folkestone and Hythe district.
It is part of Timebanking UK, a nationwide network of this system and is supported locally by the community company Custom Folkestone.
Local organiser Cherry Truluck said: "This is an exchange system, exchanging your skills with other people's."
Members of the public can attend an introductory meeting on the scheme at the Custom Folkestone base at East Yard, Folkestone Harbour Arm, from noon to 2pm on Thursday, October 31.
