She said: "He usually delivers it very early in the morning when I'm not up.

"When there was no milk there on Monday, I left a note asking him to call me in the day after he came round today.

"He did, and told me that he definitely delivered it, and that he also delivered today - but again there was no milk, which means somebody must have taken it.

"I can't believe that somebody is the type of person to steal from an elderly woman, especially when there are shops not far from where I live."

The victim's daughter, who lives hundreds of miles away, says that the crime has left her elderly mother without breakfast, as she is forced to self-isolate against the coronavirus.

"This is an example of the crisis bringing out the worst in people."

She said: "Living alone, she is reliant on her milkman for milk and essential food items, so losing her milk deliveries on Monday and Wednesday means she’s been left without breakfast for four consecutive days.

"While Captain Tom has showcased people’s kindness up and down the country, this is an example of the crisis bringing out the worst in people.

"Whoever has done this should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves."
