An appeal for witnesses has been launched after an Ashford man was left needing 10 stitches in his lip following an unprovoked attack in Broadmead Road, Folkestone.

The 21-year-old man also suffered concussion when he was assaulted at around 8.30pm last Monday, October 28.

He was approached from behind by what he believes was three men while walking to meet a friend after work.

He thinks he was struck on the back of the head with a hard implement, perhaps a baseball bat, and was punched and kicked as he fell on the ground.

Following the attack, he managed to meet his friend and was taken to the William Harvey Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Det Con Geoff Kirya said: "This appears to be an unprovoked and violent assault.

"We would appeal to anyone to come forward who may have been in the area of Broadmead Road on Monday and may have seen a disturbance or who perhaps saw a group of men walking together between 8.15pm and 8.45pm.

"The victim has no idea who has done this so any information could help us identify who was responsible for a seemingly random attack on a passer-by."
