A warehouse operative stole toys from his workplace and sold them on eBay, a court has heard.

Dean Johnson worked for Bigjigs Toys Ltd, based in Folkestone, when he secretly took the items and sold them on the online auction site, making more than £8,000 from his dishonest antics.

The 36-year-old stole the toys over a 15-month period and had worked for the firm for three years.

Johnson, formerly of Middlemead, Folkestone, but now of Smallfield near Horley, Surrey, stole the items between March 2020 and August 2021.

He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates' Court on January 11 and admitted a charge of fraud by abuse of position when he appeared in the dock.

District Judge Justin Barron heard by selling the toys on eBay, Johnson had made £8,751.95 from the sales, but his stealing spree had resulted in a £13,700 loss for the firm which is based at Park Farm Industrial Estate.

James Nichols, prosecuting, said: "He sold the items on eBay and pocketed the money. It was abuse by position of trust."

District Judge Justin Barron decided to send the case to crown court for sentencing and order a pre-sentencing report be carried out on Johnson.

He will appear there on a date to be set and was granted bail until then.
