Bosses at a Kent school have confirmed why police were called out today - in order to dispel rumours circulating on social media.

"Incorrect information" was being spread that a teacher had been attacked by a pupil at Folkestone Academy.

But it has since been confirmed that while police did attend the school in Folkestone, it was to aid a pupil suffering a medical emergency.

A spokesperson for the Academy said: "One of our students became unwell today.

"Unfortunately they required medical assistance and were later taken to hospital.

"We believe that some students heard about this second- and third-hand and shared incorrect information about this with others in our community.

"The health and safety of our students is our number one priority."

Police confirmed that two officers attended the academy after being asked to assist staff.

A spokesman added: "South East Coast Ambulance Service took a boy to hospital to be checked over. No offences have been reported."
