World Cup memorabilia from the 1966 England versus west Germany game is to be auctioned.

The collection belonged to the late Jim Jackson, who lived in the town and was a World Cup liaison officer for the referees and officials who took part in the competition.

The lots, to be sold by Kent Auction Galleries, on the Highfield Industrial Estate, off Warren Road, Folkestone, include a souvenir programme signed by 10 of the English squad, including Geoff Hurst who scored a hat-trick in the match.

There is also a piece of paper with signatures of 11 England players, including team manager Alf Ramsey.

There is a ticket for the game, photographs of the World Cup referees from around the world, original press packs and pennants and lapel badges from international and club teams involved in the finals.

The memorabilia is being sold by the late Jim Jackson’s family. Mr Jackson died in 1989, aged 69. He was born in Hertfordshire and was an accountant. He moved to Folkestone in 1969 and ran a guest house with his wife in Shorncliffe Road. During the war he was based at Shorncliffe Camp, as a member of the Royal West Kent Regiment of the Army. He was a football referee for 20 years, between the 1940s and the 1960s. He later worked in football administration.

The sale is on Saturday, February 7. For viewings and more details phone Kent Auction Galleries on 01303 246810.
