A group of youngsters were kicked off a Southeastern train this morning for reportedly smoking cannabis on board.

The 9.05am service between Ashford and Folkestone was delayed at Westenhanger after passengers reported the incident to the train crew, Southeastern confirmed.

But the group left the train without disruption following an on-board announcement asking them to leave the train, the company said.

The train was held at the station for around 10 minutes while the incident was dealt with.

A spokesman said: "This sounds like a difficult situation for one of our team to deal with, and we’re pleased to hear that he dealt with it in the most sensible manner and that his announcement resulted in the young men leaving the train.

"Thanks to those on board who have brought this to our attention, and sorry to all passengers who were inconvenienced by this incident."

If passengers refuse to leave the train officers from British Transport Police will be called to assist leading to additional delays to passengers on board, the spokesman added.

Smoking including e-cigarettes is not permitted on any station or trains.
