Folkestone boss Neil Cugley has backed his assistant Roland Edge to go into management one day.
Edge has made 182 appearances for Invicta over the years but he spends more time on the touchline these days as part of Cugley’s backroom staff.
Cugley values the opinion of Edge – as well as fellow senior players Paul Booth and Darren Smith – and believes the midfielder would make a good manager.
He said: "Edgy talks a lot of sense and he’s played under some top managers like Tony Pulis and Peter Taylor. He brings a lot of knowledge.
"When you’re the manager, sometimes you can go a little bit gung-ho and lose what you’re trying to do but he keeps it calm. He deserves a lot of praise. We’re playing good football and nobody can moan about the quality of the football.
"I definitely think he could go into management. It’s like anything – it depends if you’ve got the time and the energy to deal with the hassle that comes with non-league management.
"That’s the problem. I don’t think people realise how much hard work it is, especially if you’ve got phone calls and he’s got a job (as a teacher).
"Knowledge-wise, definitely, he could manage at a good level but it’s whether he wants to do that and have the hassle that goes with it."
