Folkestone can mix it with anyone in the league - regardless of their style of play.

Invicta suffered a 2-1 loss at Aveley last weekend, having beaten fellow title-chasing Isthmian Premier team Bishop’s Stortford a week earlier.

While they are both strong and organised sides, 11th-placed Folkestone face a different challenge altogether this Saturday against free-flowing Lewes.

But Invicta joint-head coach Roland Edge said: “I don’t think we have a favoured style.

“We recruited well in the summer. With the physical side against Stortford and Aveley, we have been able to match them.

“We’re well equipped to deal with both styles but everyone needs to do their jobs.”

When the teams met at Lewes in November, the hosts won 3-2, with ex-Folkestone frontman Joe Taylor bagging a brace.

But Edge is keen to focus on his side’s strengths.

“They try to all get on the ball and play through Joe,” he explained. “Everybody knows that.

“It’s about us executing what we do and putting our own game onto them. They’re a good side, but we know that.

“We, pretty much, only play good sides between now and the end of the season.”

Invicta had been on a six-game unbeaten run before the Aveley match and, with only seven games to play this term, they know they’ll need to produce a similar run to stand any hope of being able to earn a play-off place.

Edge said: “We have held our own against everybody, apart from Bishop’s Stortford away. We know what we need to do.

“Any run will come to an end at some point and you could see all the lads were disappointed.

“It’s about trying to take maximum points between now and the end of the season.”

While Folkestone’s squad may have looked light at times this term, it was certainly strong at Aveley, with utility players Robbie Dolan and Matt Newman - alongside all-time record scorer Ian Draycott - unused substitutes.

“I think we’re lucky,” Edge said.

“We have got a good squad and we always like to talk about that.

“It’s all well and good having the starting XI but, to actually do anything, you need a squad. They’re all good lads and they’re all working for the team.

“Some lads come on and maybe don’t give their all, but we don’t suffer with it.”

Centre-back Ian Gayle got Invicta’s goal at Aveley and is now on seven for the campaign, while left-back Nathan Green also has six this season.

Edge said: “I think they’re good records, both from left-back and centre-back.

“We always take account for some goals from defence. Usually, it only really comes from JV [Josh Vincent].

“Greeny hits it so hard sometimes that the keeper doesn’t stand a chance.

"They have both been brilliant for us.”

Gayle’s goal sandwiched a first-half strike by Ryan Scott and a late winner for the hosts from substitute Benas Vaivada.

Edge reflected: “For a neutral, it would have been a good game. It was the old cliche where it was definitely a game of two halves.

“I don’t think we started as well as we have done recently. The tempo was lacking a bit.

“At half-time, we had a bit of a chat at 1-0 down. We made it 1-1 and then they had one chance and took it to make it 2-1.

“I think a draw would have been a fair result.”

Young forward Lenny Atherton has signed for Deal on a dual-registration basis.

Edge said: “To be fair to him, he deserves it. He has done well when he’s played for us.

“We thought it was the perfect club for him to go to.

“They’re in a little bit of a pressure situation.

"The more he gets used to that sort of situation, the better for him."

The under-19s will host Rusthall Reserves for a place in the Kent Intermediate Cup Final tonight.
