New faces could be added to Folkestone’s squad soon, according to joint-boss Roland Edge.

Invicta were knocked out of the FA Trophy at the Third Qualifying Round stage on Saturday, losing on penalties at home to Isthmian Premier rivals Haringey after a 2-2 draw - despite frontman Ira Jackson’s second-half brace.

They’re now winless in seven games in all competitions.

Folkestone were without striker Dave Smith (ankle) and started with Scott Heard on the bench as he nurses a hamstring problem, only for Heard to come on in the first half to replace fellow midfielder Andy Drury after the player-coach sustained a calf knock.

Edge explained: “Heardy has been feeling his hamstring.

“We said ‘We have been struggling a bit so maybe it’s the best for you and for the team if you rest it’. We need him back to full fitness because he’s a key player.

“Then, Drury gets injured which is a blow because we’re at a stage where we need everyone 100% and Dave’s struggling a bit with his ankle.

“We might bring a couple of fresh faces in. We’re at that stage now.

“If you look across the Isthmian Leagues, everyone is looking at what they have got and thinking ‘Should we go for it?’. I think we’re in the same boat.”

Invicta have won only once competitively at Cheriton Road this term, 2-0 against Margate in August, but could start to put that record right when they host Cheshunt this Saturday.

Craig Edwards’ team were knocked out of the FA Trophy at the same stage on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to division rivals Dulwich, having beaten the same opposition 2-1 in their last league encounter.

“Cheshunt aren’t doing too badly,” Edge said. “They just beat Dulwich. Everyone is beating everyone.

“Hornchurch are probably favourites for the title, rightly so, but I’ve watched the highlights of Cheshunt.

“They look like a decent side and we know their manager is getting the best out of them - just like the managers of Wingate & Finchley and Potters Bar are.

“Every team in this league doesn’t want to go out of it. The only thing that’s different is the styles and then you have got to adapt.

“The fans have been great, they have got behind us. I feel for them a bit.

“They perhaps should be leaving the ground with three points [more regularly], celebrating into the evening and that’s not happened often enough this season.

“But I’ve been in football long enough to know that one win can kick-start our season. It’s about getting it.

“Cheshunt is the next game and will be our next chance to get a win. But we know it’ll be tough.”

A Jackson penalty put the hosts ahead against Haringey after a goalless first half and, although Michael O'Donoghue levelled, Folkestone’s 26-year-old former Football League frontman appeared to win it at the death.

But the visitors equalised again to set-up a shoot-out, which they won 5-3.

Jackson also had netted late goals against Kent rivals Chatham and Margate this term - before the opposition hit back on those occasions.

Edge joked: “I would rather he didn’t [score late goals]! Ira did it against Chatham and at Margate as well.

“He has something on his day no one else in the league has.

“We all know what Ira is capable of, it’s about him delivering consistently.

“Haringey’s league position definitely doesn’t show how good they are. They’re only at the bottom because they have had good cup runs.

“As for us, we’re not 10 league games in and we’re not a million miles away.

“I do think we have been a little bit unfortunate - but at the end of the day, you can create your own fortune.”

Invicta visit Isthmian South East Herne Bay in the Velocity Cup on Tuesday.
