Folkestone boss Neil Cugley believes midfielder Jordan Wright is destined for big things – if he continues to apply himself.

Wright, 20, joined Invicta from Lydd Town last summer and made himself a first-team fixture at the Fullicks Stadium, playing 50 games.

Cugley said: "He’s done incredibly well. He needs to be a bit stronger physically but there’s no reason he can’t go on and play at a higher standard.

"Next year’s going to be a big season for him because it’ll be his second year at this standard.

"It’s up to him how much he wants it, how much he pushes himself. I hope he does."

Johan ter Horst’s big move to Hull City last summer has offered Wright and the rest of Invicta’s young players encouragement that hard work does pay off.

Cugley said: "We’ve got 24 youth teams and it’s great when these lads, like Johan, get through and become somebody. It’s why we run the club as we do, to give people opportunities.

"We had a 16-man squad last season and eight of those came out of our youth system.

"If you work hard and you’re good enough, you’ll get a chance."
