There is an all-new teaching line-up at Folkestone’s Canton Martial Arts Academy.
The club have been teaching applied karate jutsu in Folkestone for more than 10 years and have produced many national and world champions.
Especially beneficial to schools from the area, the club - working alongside the Sports Trust - give free demonstrations and lectures, presenting their anti-bullying and stranger-danger programmes which have been hugely well-received.
Started by husband-and-wife duo Mike and Denise Hardy, the Academy have gone from strength-to-strength.
Both have moved to more senior roles within Canton Martial Arts, which have ushered in a new team led by Darryl Wick - a local businessman - who started in the Academy many years ago alongside his daughters.
Joining him are coaches Glenn Pheiffer, Ben Irving and Chris Schot.
“Handing over the Folkestone dojo to Darryl and his new team is a bittersweet feeling for us,” said Mike.
“We started this dojo with a dream of building a great community that would help facilitate families to train and learn together.
“I’m immensely proud of Darryl and the new lads in charge, and can - once again - see that the Folkestone ethos that Denise and I took years to harness will now come to fruition.”
The Academy have moved location from Three Hills Sports Park and are now based at Sandgate Primary School on Coolinge Lane on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings.
