Neil Cugley insists Folkestone Invicta will not break their wage structure to sign players after missing out on two transfer targets.

Cugley wanted to bring Craig Cloke to the Fullicks Stadium but the former Dover and Margate man instead chose to rejoin local rivals Hythe Town.

Folkestone were reportedly keen on Whitstable midfielder Scott Heard as well but Cugley’s squad remains unchanged for now.

He said: "I was after two players last week and I didn’t get either of them.

"With the first one, the fee the club wanted was too high but I can’t say who that is.

"The second one, Clokey, ended up at Hythe and I couldn’t afford his wages. I thought he would have been a good lad to have around the place but good luck to him there.

"We’ll get on with it. The next signing has to be the right one.

"I’m not moaning. At the beginning of the year we put a budget together and we’ll keep to it.

"We are ambitious and there is still money in there but we’ve worked so hard at this club to get it right, we’re not going to throw it away."
