Furious Folkestone manager Neil Cugley will give his defenders a chance to redeem themselves when Hastings visit the Fullicks Stadium on Saturday.

Cugley described Invicta’s defending at Carshalton last weekend as “a shambles” after the visitors crashed to a shock 5-3 defeat.

He ripped into his normally reliable backline at half-time and again after the game at Colston Avenue.

Goalkeeper Tim Roberts, centre-halves Liam Friend and Frankie Chappell and full-backs Josh Vincent and Nat Blanks all came in for criticism after a defensive display which Cugley described as one of the worst he’d ever seen.

He said: "The back-four were all so bad that I couldn’t choose who to leave out (against Hastings). I’ll probably go with them again.

"It didn’t start well, with a terrible backpass from JV, then Blanksy was mullered for their second one, Liam didn’t clear the third one, the goalkeeper hasn’t got there for a cross... They were all as bad as each other.

"They’ve got to show me that complacency hasn’t set in, that it was a one-off because they are not in my good books at the minute."
