Folkestone's bid to reach the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in more than a decade failed on Saturday.

Invicta trailed to a fourth-minute goal at Slough and ended the game with 10 men when Kieron McCann was sent-off nine minutes from time.

Folkestone arrived 16th in Bostik Premier - the same level on the non-league pyramid as Slough - although they have only played nine league games so far.

Boss Neil Cugley made three changes from their defeat at Met Police last week, bringing in Nat Banks, skipper Callum Davies and Ade Yusuff.

In contrast, Slough were second in Evo-Stik South Premier with nine wins from 11 games, including a 5-4 comeback in midweek at Merthyr having been 4-0 down at one stage.

It took the hosts only four minutes to flex their goalscoring muscles. A fine ball over the top from Nathan Smart picked out Warren Harris, who got the better of McCann and fired low beyond keeper Tim Roberts.

At times, Slough's one-touch passing and movement in the attacking third was slicing Invicta apart. But, to their credit, Folkestone held on.

Admittedly, James Dobson somehow prodded wide from close range following Harris' cross just before the half-hour when he should have doubled Slough's advantage.

At the other end, Folkestone took their time to get into the game although Yusuff was a threat over the top as the home side lacked pace in their defence.

Sam Hasler shot wide from long range, Yusuff missed his kick after forcing an error from the home defence and then Joe Taylor's effort lacked power to test keeper Jack Turner.

the impressive Davies cleared early in the second half to prevent Flood with a simple tap-in before Invicta enjoyed their best spell of the game.

The closest the visitors came was on 58 minutes when keeper Jack Turner did brilliantly to turn over Hasler's 30-yard left-foot free-kick.

But it was a rare piece of action for Turner as Invicta, for all their pressure, failed to create too many clear-cut chances despite going three-up front in the last quarter of the game with Ian Draycott coming on.

Slough always had potential to hurt them at the other end and it needed another good Davies block to deny the home side.

Invicta finished with 10 men when McCann was cautioned for a bad foul on the halfway line. Within 60 seconds, McCann appeared to be bundled over as he raced forward with the ball. The Invicta man handled the ball as he looked for a free-kick, instead referee David Spain showed him a second yellow card.

Slough kept the ball well late on and could have added a second as the home side progressed to the first round and Monday night's draw.
