Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley set to release players and bring others in

Folkestone boss Neil Cugley is ready to show players the door on the back of three bad defeats in Bostik Premier.

Invicta have shipped 11 goals during that run, scoring just four goals, and it's now just one win in their last six Bostik Premier matches.

Play-off semi-finalists last season, they've failed to hit those highs in 2018-19 and Cugley has decided it's time to act.

He's been on the phone to transfer targets this week and has promised to make changes when Dorking Wanderers visit the Fullicks Stadium on Saturday.

Fifth-placed Dorking would go six points clear of Folkestone with a win so that losing run simply can't go on.

Cugley admitted: "It needs a fair few changes.

"I don't just blame the defence because the forwards could have put us in charge of some of these games and they haven't. There are problems at both ends.

"It's a shame because they're good lads and they've done the club proud but if they're not going to do it each week, you've got to change it around.

"You honestly hope they do well because they're good people but this year, we've not got going at all."

Players will have to leave to free up the funds to sign replacements.

"It's not easy because they're good people," Cugley said. "I said to them on Saturday, it's not personal but they do get paid and they know the situation. They know they've not hit the form of last year.

"We've had illness and injuries but you've got to take them and get on with it.

"Signing players is never quite as easy as people think. There's no conveyor belt of footballers.

"It's no good bringing in players who aren't better than what you've got.

"Most of the better players live away so it is difficult but that's the nature of the job.

"I suppose because of how well we did last year it's made it harder.

"The year before we were just up and it was great but reality has set in now."

Phil Starkey (groin) should be fit to face Dorking and Josh Vincent returns after suspension while Micheal Everitt is also available.
