Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley says he is unsure how long he will remain as manager.

The admission comes after the revelation at the end of last week that the club faces "financial meltdown" unless it takes drastic action to secure its future.

Cugley - who has been in charge at Cheriton Road for 12 years - has had to tell his players there is no money to pay them.

He said: "Folkestone have been loyal to me and I'm not the sort of person to get up and walk out.

"But eventually if they can't pay me and the players then, like anybody else, I'll have to look for another position. Hopefully it will not come to that."

The club revealed in a statement posted on its website that match day income has plunged by 30 per cent. There are suggestions the club may not be able to complete this season.

The directors blamed factors such as poor budgeting and unauthorised spending and fears it will not get the money it needs as the country speeds towards recession.

The statment said: "The situation is now so serious that urgent and drastic action is needed to save the club from financial meltdown that could lead to its ultimate failure.

"Decisions will be taken, which may not always be popular with supporters, but will be designed only to try to safeguard the future of the club and to see all the games played this season."

It adds that in the close season there was a failure to cut costs and wage budgets were put in place that were "not sustainable on any sensible basis".

The club is getting help from a consultant to help in legal and financial matters.
