Folkestone manager Neil Cugley believes Ronnie Dolan can play a key role in his side’s Ryman League, Division 1 South play-off push over the second half of the season.
The former Hythe and Ashford midfielder, who signed from Hastings last month, was prominent for Invicta in their 3-1 victory at Tooting & Mitcham on Saturday.
Cugley said: “Ronnie did well and, although I know this sounds a bit big headed, he’s one of those lads who I think I can make a better player.
“If you can get real confidence into him, he’s got the ability to run games and he’s still only 22.”
Cugley was also pleased with the contribution of Flavious Fedor at Tooting after the Romanian midfielder, who joined from Hastings at the same time as Dolan, came on in place of the injured Micheal Everitt after just 19 minutes.
Everitt’s injury was one of a series of problems Cugley had to deal with on Saturday.
Already missing Josh Vincent and Callum Wraight, he lost Matt Newman on the morning of the game because of a family bereavement while Nat Blanks played despite feeling unwell.
It looked like it was going to be one of those days for Cugley when Tooting went in front through Dan Summers on the stroke of half-time but substitute Richard Atkins equalised after 79 minutes before Frankie Chappell and Paul Booth completed Invicta’s comeback.
With Merstham and Faversham taking points off each other in their 1-1 draw at Salters Lane, it could prove a valuable victory for Cugley’s side who are away to 10th-placed Chipstead this Saturday.
