Folkestone Invicta 2, Stafford Rangers 1
A WONDER goal from striker Nicky Dent was the highlight of Folkestone Invicta's 2-1 win over Stafford Rangers at Cheriton Road on Saturday. Dent took full advantage of the wind-assisted conditions to send his shot on the turn sailing over goalkeeper Ryan Price from fully 45 yards.
The 34-year-old striker has scored many memorable goals during an illustrious career, including one from the half way line for Dover Athletic, and this one was up there with the best of them as he let fly from inside the Stafford centre circle.
It was 2-0 on Saturday as centre half Anthony Henry scored from close range after 53 minutes when James Dryden headed on a James Virgo free kick.
Stafford pulled a goal back in the 64th minute when a Craig Lovatt shot crept under goalkeeper Dave Wietecha. The game was played amid a mixture of rain, sleet, snow and hail.
But Invicta's win enabled them to complete their first league double of the season, and at the same time set a new club record of six consecutive unbeaten games in the Premier Division. There were bookings for Invicta's Morris and Stafford's Lovatt and Simkin.
Folkestone Invicta: Wietecha, Morris, Virgo, D Larkin, Daniels, McRobert (S Hogg 45 mins), Chandler, Chapman, Dryden, Dent (Reina 75 mins), Henry. Unused sub: D Fisk.
