Neither big money nor a better standard of football would have tempted striker Paul Booth away from Folkestone Invicta this summer.
Booth, 37, has already agreed a deal which will keep him at the Fullicks Stadium next season.
His remarkable goal record since joining Invicta in November meant other clubs were sniffing around but Booth had no interest in moving on. And a quick call to manager Neil Cugley was all it took to extend his stay.
Booth said: "I’m at a point in my career where I just want to be playing. I’m not chasing money, I’m not chasing playing as high as I can, I’m enjoying my football and just want to play games.
"I’m a big believer that when you’re happy, you should stay where you are. Sometimes I’ve been happy and I’ve gone to other clubs because I thought the grass was greener but it doesn’t always work that way.
"With Folkestone, it works for me. Cugs knows the score with me. He knows that I can’t always make training but he knows I’ll do my own stuff to look after myself.
"I’m playing week in, week out and I’ve got to admit, I like the club. The supporters are great and there’s a good feel about it. At my age, that’s what I want."
Cugley was delighted to keep hold of his signing of the season.
He said: “Boothy’s had offers this year, while he’s been with us, since he started scoring goals. People have been ringing him up but he’s loyal, he’s a man of his word.
“He didn’t want a lot of phone calls and people pestering him, he wanted to be settled. I’m pleased because he’s a good lad and likes his football.”
Booth has scored 23 goals in 27 appearances for Invicta.
He said: “It’s strange. “I’ve always scored goals but my ratio’s never been this good. As you get older, you’re meant to slow down but maybe the way Folkestone play football suits me."
Folkestone booked their place in the Ryman League Division 1 South play-offs with a 2-1 win over Hastings United at the Fullicks Stadium on Tuesday night.
Johan ter Horst's 26th goal of the season put the home side in front and Hastings were reduced to 10 men when Danny Ellis was show a yellow card.
But it was game on when Sam Adams made it 1-1 from the penalty spot with 10 minues left.
However, a thumping header from Frankie Chappell won the game for Invicta, who only need to win one of their last three games to finish third - guaranteeing a home semi-final.
