FOLKESTONE Invicta manager Neil Cugley is targeting maximum points from his team’s two up-and-coming Ryman League Division 1 South games.
Invicta continued their good start to the season with victory over Ramsgate in the FA Cup on Saturday, and Cugley is looking for more of the same, starting at home with Burgess Hill Town this weekend, writes ALEX BIRCH.
“You have to win your home games to get into the play-offs in this league,” said Cugley, whose side have won four out of five games at home this season.
“Burgess Hill have started well but if we can play the way we have been doing recently then we can win. Nick Humphrey, Jimmy Jackson and Matt Bourne will all be available, and Craig Wilkins could make the bench so we aren’t too badly off player-wise.
“Jimmy Corbett will be out until mid-October however, but Lee Spiller could be back for Whitstable on Tuesday night.
“Whitstable is another game that we’ve got to look to get some points out of and I’m positive that with the right approach we can do just that.”
Following Whitstable, Invicta take another break from league action to entertain Ryman League Premier Division Horsham in the FA Cup at the Buzzlines Stadium on September 27.
Despite Cugley’s preference for a tie against lower-league opposition, he is happy enough with the Second Round Qualifying draw.
“We wanted a home draw first and foremost, and thats what we’ve got,” he said.
“They are a good side who will be looking to mirror their exploits from last year (Horsham reached the second round proper before losing to Swansea in a replay). It will be an exciting game with plenty of good football on show and hopefully they’ll be a big crowd.”
