Folkestone Invicta's future has been secured until the end of the season.
The club revealed debts of more than £200,000 in October, with around half that figure owed to the Inland Revenue.
But Mark Jenner, the consultant who is handling Invicta’s financial problems, had a meeting with HMRC officials at the end of last week and afterwards said the club had made “one small but important step in rebuilding for the future.”
He said: “Several important concessions were achieved including a reduction in the total amount the Inland Revenue are claiming of about one third and an undertaking not to proceed against the club in enforcing any claim until at least the end of the season.
“This still leaves a significant sum outstanding, which will have to be dealt with in one way or another, but the Board now has a longer period in which to devise a plan to ensure football continues at Cheriton Road.”
