Former Folkestone Invicta player Tim Dixon named as club’s interim manager for the next two home games following boss Andy Drury’s departure

A former player has been appointed as Folkestone’s interim manager following the departure of Andy Drury as their boss.

Dixon played for Invicta, joining in the 1996/97 season, and has a wealth of experience, having held roles at Dover, Ramsgate, Hythe, Herne Bay and Faversham.

His previous managerial positions came at Ramsgate and Hythe, albeit he hasn’t been in the hot-seat for a decade.

Folkestone chairman Josh Healey says Dixon will take charge of the next two Isthmian Premier games, at home to Chichester tomorrow (Tuesday) night and against Whitehawk this weekend.

“I’m thankful that Tim has stepped in during an important time for the club,” Healey said in Monday night’s statement.

“He’s always been a huge supporter of Folkestone Invicta.

“His experience and knowledge of the team will be invaluable throughout this transitional period.”

Dixon will have a decision to make over who plays in goal against Whitehawk as No.1 Jonny Henly serves a suspension after his late dismissal in last weekend’s 2-1 victory at second-bottom Bognor Regis.

News of former Football League midfielder Drury’s departure came just hours after that game.

He had been in charge since November 2023 as he steered them away from relegation trouble last term.

The 41-year-old has previously managed Whitstable Town and Margate, setting his sights on a play-off push with Folkestone this campaign.

While the decision to part ways with Drury may not have been a huge surprise to fans, the timing of his exit might have done - coming after a win and, also, with a top-five finish not yet mathematically impossible.

Jay Saunders, who will leave his managerial role at National League South side Tonbridge at the end of this season, has been tipped to take the Cheriton Road job.
