Folkestone Invicta intend to have 3G pitch installed at Cheriton Road in time for 2025/26 season

Folkestone intend to have a new 3G pitch installed in time for next season.

The Isthmian Premier team confirmed the plan for the new season to be the club’s last on a grass surface at Cheriton Road, subject to planning being granted by Folkestone & Hythe District Council, after positive discussions with the council.

“From the outset, our aim has always been to enhance the sustainability of the club,” chairman Josh Healey said in Monday’s statement.

“Having already created a new community sports bar and much-improved first-team changing room facilities, I’m thrilled to announce that our next stage of investment is the playing surface.

“We will be moving to a state-of-the-art 3G pitch which will, not only grow the reach of the club by bringing in the wider community, but it’s set to provide much greater consistency for our first-team players, Academy, youth and newly-founded women’s team.

“This marks a significant milestone for Folkestone Invicta FC and one I’m sure will have a lasting impact, bringing people together and strengthening the local community here in Folkestone from the roots up.

“We’re excited to see the impact and opportunities it brings.”

The planning application for Folkestone’s 3G pitch - in addition to upgraded perimeter fencing at the ground - is due to be submitted to the council in the coming months.

It comes after what the club described as “too many Saturday matchday postponements” during the 2023/24 campaign.

Invicta started pre-season with a 2-1 victory on Sheppey’s artificial surface through late goals from signings Dan Smith and Evans Kouassi last weekend.

They are set to visit Southern Counties East Premier Division Whitstable tomorrow (Tuesday) night as boss Andy Drury returns to one of his old clubs.

Further details on Folkestone’s plans for the 3G pitch will be communicated in due course.
