Both Folkestone and Margate came from a goal behind on Saturday to draw their respective opening fixtures of their new Isthmian Premier campaigns.
A stunning strike by Kadell Daniel got Neil Cugley’s side level in the second half after home team Enfield had led at half-time through a goal by Jake Cass as the teams played out a 1-1 draw.
At Margate, Ben Greenhalgh scored a late penalty as they drew with Kingstonian.
Tyrese Owen had given the visitors the lead on the stroke of half-time before Gate captain Greenhalgh kept his nerve from the spot to earn Andy Drury’s men a share of the spoils at Hartsdown Park.
Cray Wanderers let their lead slip as they were beaten 2-1 at recently-relegated Billericay in the same division.
Dan Bassett opened his account for Neil Smith’s side from a Michael Ademiluyi cross.
After the restart, however, the hosts flipped the match on its head.
Substitute Chris Dickson’s penalty got them level while Alfie Cerulli fired in their second with five minutes left to play, although there were suggestions play should have been stopped due to a head injury to Cray forward Tom Derry.
There was also a Wands debut for former Ashford and Kennington striker Gary Lockyer who came off the bench in the second period.
Newly-promoted Herne Bay visit Potters Bar - managed by Deal-born former Football League midfielder Sammy Moore - on Sunday, kick-off will be at 2pm.
Steve Lovell’s Ramsgate top Isthmian South East after the opening round of fixtures in the division having won 3-0 against last season’s play-off semi-finalists Cray Valley.
Jordan Chiedozie converted an early penalty to get them on their way at Southwood and striker Josh Ajayi struck twice after the restart, with things getting even worse for Cray Valley when Barney Williams was sent off.
Hythe were also victors, earning a 2-0 victory at Corinthian.
Shad Ngandu got both goals for Steve Watt’s Cannons in the first period - the second coming from the penalty spot.
Beckenham won a five-goal thriller at Lancing.
The Lancers led 2-1 at half-time, Louis Theophanous’ strike for Beckenham sandwiching two goals for Tyrone Madhani.
But Danny Waldron equalised for the visitors and substitute Alfie Broomfield won it with five minutes to go.
VCD beat another of last season’s play-off semi-finalists, Haywards Heath, 2-1.
Anthony Adesite opened the scoring but Alahady Ibrahaim Jalloh got Haywards Heath level before Daniel Phillips netted the all-important third goal midway through the second half.
VCD could have added a third late on when Ben Holden received a second yellow and was sent off. Away goalkeeper Billy Collings saved the spot-kick but it mattered little in the end.
There was a winning start for Ashford, too, at Burgess Hill.
Defender Liam Friend - back from injury - scored the only goal.
Having started their campaign with an emphatic FA Cup victory last weekend, Sevenoaks won 1-0 at home to Three Bridges as they made a victorious start in the league too.
Ryan Gondoh broke the deadlock and, despite the hosts having Karn Miller-Neave sent off midway through the second half, they battled to a hard-fought three points.
In the division’s only draw, Sheppey started life in Isthmian South East by sharing the points with Chichester.
There was a goal either side of the interval as Jefferson Aibangbee put The Ites - now managed by Jack Midson - ahead, only for Callum Overton to level in the 52nd minute.
Faversham were on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller at home to last season's FA Vase finalists Littlehampton.
Attacking midfielder Nathan Wood put the Lilywhites ahead but that advantage only lasted for four minutes as Jordan Layton converted a penalty for the visitors.
Efforts by Aaron Capon and Marshall Ball put Littlehampton in control and, despite a late Bradley Schafer penalty, Town were beaten at Salters Lane.
Swale rivals Sittingbourne were also beaten, losing 2-1 at Whitehawk.
Things started badly for Nick Davis’ team who saw Ben Gorham sent off for handling in the penalty area and Joe Shelley converted the spot-kick for Whitehawk.
Prolific striker Javaun Splatt, who had agreed to sign for Ramsgate earlier this summer but is now back at Whitehawk, doubled their advantage before half-time.
Substitute Frank Puemo gave the Brickies late hope with an 89th-minute goal, tapping home from close range, but they couldn’t find an equaliser.
Chatham lost on their return to Isthmian South East at East Grinstead.
Tahjae Anderson netted the match’s only goal to consign Kevin Hake’s men to defeat.
