Joint-head coach Micheal Everitt admits Folkestone’s dominant derby home win on Monday over Margate was the perfect way to start the year.
Invicta took a second-minute lead in the Isthmian Premier encounter at Cheriton Road through Ian Gayle's header before fellow defender Nathan Green doubled their advantage with a fine solo strike.
After the restart, the club's all-time leading scorer Ian Draycott struck to put the result beyond doubt before top scorer Ade Yusuff made it 4-0 in front of a bumper crowd of 1,179.
“It’s the perfect start to the year,” said Everitt.
“I think the boys put in a really good, professional, performance and we were delighted with the performance and the result.”
Draycott came on after 30 minutes, replacing midfielder Scott Heard who came off injured.
Everitt explained: “It was an impact injury.
“From the tackle, their lad got booked. It looked a little bit reckless but it’s a local derby so tackles do fly in.
“Scott’s got a whack on his ankle, to be fair. We have had some treatment on it already and it’s just a case of whether it’ll settle down before Saturday [when they visit Wingate].
“It’s not like we have a full week, he has a couple of days less to recover.”
But the experienced Draycott proved a capable replacement. He netted Folkestone’s third, just his second this season after last scoring in a 5-2 loss at home to Aveley in November.
Draycott is now on 149 goals for the club while prolific Yusuff recently went beyond 100 goals in an Invicta shirt.
Everitt joked: “I bet Ade’s not happy - he now has another one to go to get past him!
“But when he came on, I thought Draycs was terrific and he deserved his goal. He showed real touches of class.”
Player-of-the-match Green drove forward, beating several Margate players on the left wing, before his low drive squirmed underneath away keeper Dan Jinadu for his goal. His effort was his sixth this term - all having come at home.
“It’s a terrific goal,” Everitt enthused.
“We love him down here and we wouldn’t want anybody else.
“He’s certainly playing catch up with the amount of man-of-the-match bottles of champagne he’s got down here and he had another terrific game.
“I didn’t know that [he hadn’t scored away]. But he’s scoring goals so we’re happy.”
Invicta keeper Joe Coleman, who came off the bench in the 2-1 victory at Herne Bay, made his first senior start in their only change, with Pat Ohman out with an injury sustained on Boxing Day.
On Ohman, Everitt said: “We think he’ll be okay for Saturday.
“But I’ve got to say a big well done to Joe. He’s come and, not only has he come on for 20 minutes at Herne Bay, which I think he probably didn’t expect, he’s then playing a week later in a big Kent derby.
“Fair play to him. He’s had a great attitude.
“When I spoke to him on New Year’s Day to let him know, he was nothing but positive and he was looking forward to the challenge.”
Invicta are 13th, only six points behind fifth-placed Aveley with a league game in hand.
