A FOLKESTONE athlete has added another win to his list.

Edmond Simpson, 71, of Perries Mead, Folkestone, won the 1,500 metre race at the British Masters Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

He has won silver several times before but it was his first gold in the event, with a time of six minutes and one second.

He also competed in the 5,000 metres and came third in the 70-74 age category, with a time of 21 minutes and 33 seconds.

In his age category the Folkestone Running Club member is currently British champion in four disciplines - the marathon, the 3,000 metre indoor track, the 10,000 metre indoor track and now the 1,500 metre.

The runner took up the sport 12 years ago, aged 59.
