FOLKESTONE Invicta FC's game away to Margate on Boxing Day saw the launch of “The Syko Challenge” by BBC Radio Kent’s Mike Green.

Mike is arranging a game in memory of Paul Sykes at Hartsdown Park on Sunday April 30 between a team managed by Margate’s Chris Kinnear and one by Dover Athletic boss Clive Walker.

It will featuring players who competed both alongside and against Paul Sykes, the striker who tragically died after collapsing on the pitch when playing for Invicta against his former club Margate in a Kent Senior Cup semi final tie on April 12 2005.

The Folkestone Football Supporters’ Club has offered to supply the draw tickets that will be sold in advance and on the day. The KCFA has donated all the balls to be used on the day.

All proceeds will go to the Sykes famliy and Paul’s widow, Carly, will be guest of honour on the day.

Their young son Thomas was a mascot at Hartsdown Park on Boxing Day. He was dressed in a Margate kit and an Invicta hat and scarf.
