Former Gillingham striker Ashley Miller is on his way from Hythe Town to Folkestone Invicta.

Miller, 20, joined Hythe from Maidstone United in September and scored nine goals in 15 appearances for the Cannons.

But after making a seven-day approach for the striker last week, Invicta boss Neil Cugley confirmed Miller had decided to swap Reachfields for the Fullicks Stadium.

"It’s all agreed and I’m delighted to get him," Cugley said. "We only had three forwards and I like to play with three up front – which means you need four forwards for competition or in case one gets injured."

Cugley sees similarities between Miller and former Folkestone star Johan ter Horst, who left the club to join Premier League side Hull City last summer.

"He gets on people’s shoulders, he’s skilful and he’s got a good goal ratio," Cugley said.

Hythe boss Tim Dixon said: "I saw that Neil mentioned Ashley was similar to Johan. But he's the other way round.

"Johan's never made it in the game and he's now got his chance. Ashley's had his chance already and he came out. It's about whether he's hungry enough to get back into the League."

Cugley insisted money was not Miller's motivation for moving across Shepway.

He said: "I’m not being funny but he’s taking a cut to come to us, so he’s coming for the right reasons.

"He’s kept moving clubs and I think he senses that he needs to settle down somewhere. I think he senses this is a good move for him because we get on the ball and create a lot of chances."

So was Miller on more money at Hythe than he's getting now? "No comment," said Dixon.
