Hythe Town manager Scott Porter felt he was left with no other option but to pull his team out of the Kent Senior Cup this week.
Monday’s scheduled quarter-final tie against Bromley was called off because Hythe didn’t have enough fit senior players to field a team.
A long injury list and no reserve squad left Porter with only the club’s youth players to call on as back-up but time was against the Town manager.
He said: "We couldn’t do anything about it. We told the KCFA our situation.
"I couldn’t call on the youth team at that time of day because they were in college and school.
"It was one of those freak moments. Saturday (a 3-2 defeat at Worthing) took its toll. I’ve got a small squad and we’ve got no reserve side.
"I couldn’t jeopardise the rest of the season with the players I had and our fitness. I just had to be honest about it and we couldn’t fulfil the fixture."
Hythe entertain Burgess Hill in Ryman League Division 1 South on Saturday.
