Hythe Town manager Scott Porter has spoken out about how the resignation of Paul Markland as chairman has changed the financial landscape at Reachfields.
Mr Markland (pictured) stepped down last May for work reasons after 12 years in charge, during which time Hythe won promotion from the Kent League and established themselves in the Ryman League.
Porter then led his side to the Division 1 South play-offs in what was to be Mr Markland’s final season as chairman.
His replacement, John Dowsett, was only in the top job until December, when he quit for personal reasons.
And with the club now advertising for a new chairman, Porter revealed just how testing this "transitional" season has been for him.
He said: "It’s a big hole to fill, with Paul gone. I had a good relationship with him and he did so much for the football club.
"The new directors and sponsors have come in and they’re doing their thing behind the scenes but it has been difficult. I wanted us to compete at the top end but we can’t at the moment.
"With the last chairman, everything was OK. This year, it’s all about sponsorship and us going out to get money to cover what we haven’t got."
