Sibton Park Cricket Club are ready to walk out at Lord’s on Sunday for the National Village Cup final.

Four weeks on from their semi-final triumph against Miskin Manor, Sibton take on Yorkshire side Sessay at the home of cricket.

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the amateur players from Lyminge, who will be led out for the final by their long-serving Australian captain Steven Rowe.

He said: "We’re all excited. A few boys are starting to get a bit nervous but it’s nearly here now.

"It’s another game of cricket, we want to win and the fact it’s a final makes that even more important. But this is probably the only time we’re going to play at Lord’s so we want to make sure we enjoy the experience.

"Enjoying the experience is enhanced significantly when you’re doing well and we’ll take it as seriously as any other game."

Sibton, whose Kent League match at Bromley-based Old Wilsonians on Saturday has been brought forward an hour, will stay in London’s Danubius Hotel on Saturday night, overlooking Lord’s.

The players will be given a tour of the ground early on Sunday morning before Rowe and the Sessay captain meet with the chairman of the MCC.

After warm-ups and team photos, play starts at 11am.

Rowe said: "We’re up to our third supporters’ coach so there should be a few hundred there at least. Hopefully, we can outnumber the Northerners!

"We’ve had a fair bit of support on social media and from our opposition in the Kent League over the last few weeks. They’ve been pretty excited for us and wished us well.

"It’s good for Kent cricket too because Tunbridge Wells won their national T20 quarter-final so they’re through to finals day."

Ryan Currie is out with a knee injury while wicketkeeper Matt Goldbacher will be 12th man after missing the semi-final for a family holiday.

Tickets are available on the gate, priced at £13 for adults, £6.50 for over-65s and £5 for under-16s.
