Folkestone Invicta’s new-look squad begin their Ryman League Division One South campaign at Worthing on Saturday, but much of the focus over the last week has been on off the field matters.
After the arrival of former Ashford Town chairman Mark Jenner to the club’s board at the end of last week, further movement occurred on Tuesday, as chairman Jim Pellatt stood down from his position due for “purely personal reasons”.
Expectations are high that Invicta can bounce back from last year’s relegation, but manager Neil Cugley is cautious about putting too much pressure on his squad.
“We want to be there or there abouts at the end of the season,” he said. “We’ve got the players this year that will allow us to play some good football and start putting the smiles back on the supporters’ faces.”
Two players that could add to the entertainment value at the Buzzlines Stadium are wing-back Mark Green and forward Byron Walker. Both signed on for the club last weekend and Cugley is hopefully of adding another forward before the end of the week.
“Byron gives us that extra pace and has done well in pre-season and Mark is a good fit for our left side. We are now looking at some extra forward cover and I’m confident we’ll secure a deal before Saturday.”
Craig Wilkins is definitely out of Saturday’s game, and will miss at least the next month, after he prepares for a knee operation today (Thursday). Charlie Mitten, Matt Bourne, Michael Everitt and James Corbett are all slight doubts and Lee Spiller is suspended.
