The A2 has reopened after an earlier crash caused long delays for drivers.
The coast-bound carriageway was closed after a vehicle overturned in the collision between Gravesend and Rochester just after 7.30am.
Traffic ground to a halt in the aftermath, with motorists told to take alternative routes while emergency services worked at the scene.
Kent Police said two cars were involved in the accident and one driver had suffered a leg injury.
Kent Fire and Rescue said they attended the scene with three fire engines.
Crews used hydraulic spreaders and cutting tools to free a driver from the wreckage, before passing them into the care of paramedics.
National Highways tweeted earlier: “Following a serious collision, the A2 in Kent is closed eastbound between the A227 (Gravesend) and the M2/A289 (Rochester).
“All emergency services are working at the scene with traffic officers assisting with closures.”
One lane reopened mid-morning, but three lanes remained closed until about 11.20am while highways workers cleared a spillage.
