Peace and quiet has descended on a neighbourhood after a music lover had his stereo seized.

Gravesham’s environmental health noise team confiscated audio equipment from a man in Lancaster Court, York Road, Gravesend, after he ignored warnings and continued to play loud music.

After complaints to the council’s Regulatory Services, evidence from digital sound recording equipment was gathered and Ras Muir was served with a noise abatement notice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 in April 2014 requiring him to stop causing a nuisance.

But the council continued to get complaints. Further evidence obtained by the investigating officers and council’s community wardens confirmed that Muir was not complying with the notice.

A warrant was obtained from magistrates and 10 speakers, two subwoofers and a graphic equalizer were confiscated on Friday by the environmental health team with support from police.

The council will monitor the situation. If Muir buys more audio equipment and continues to use it to annoy people, similar action will be taken.

Muir can apply to have his equipment back after 21 days but if he does the council will charge him costs for the seizure before returning the speakers.
