Alleged drug dealer charged following pursuit in Gravesend

Six charges have been made against an alleged drug dealer following a pursuit in Gravesend.

Daniel Bassett was arrested after officers became suspicious of a car travelling in Mitchell Avenue at around 7.05pm on Monday September 2.

Following a pursuit, it stopped in Vale Road, but the occupant then ran from the area.

A quantity of suspected cocaine was found inside the vehicle and, following a search, Bassett was detained at 7.15pm.

The 22-year-old, of St Albans Close, Gravesend, has since been charged with dangerous driving and possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

In addition to these offences, he has been charged with assaulting a police officer, dangerous driving, possessing heroin with intent to supply and possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply following an incident in Albion Terrace, Gravesend, on March 13.

During the incident, a Kent Police officer is reported to have been injured by a car being driven by Mr Bassett. A quantity of crack cocaine and heroin is alleged to have been found inside the same vehicle.

Mr Bassett was remanded in custody to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday September 4.

At the hearing he was further remanded in custody and will next appear at Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday October 2.
