A worker has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after he was reportedly crushed between a forklift truck and a post.

The air ambulance flew to the Castle Hill estate in Ebbsfleet at about 9am where it was joined by police, the fire brigade and the ambulance service.

Building work is taking place on the estate and residents said it was the driver of one of the construction vehicles who was hurt.

The injured man was flown to King's College Hospital in London after emergency services were called to Motte Lane this morning.

An ambulance spokesman said they were called at 8.50am to reports a man had been crushed between a forklift and a post.

One ambulance and a paramedic car attended and the spokesman said the patient had suffered serious injuries.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended and provided support for medical crews, who treated an injured man at the scene."

An air ambulance spokesman said they were called to reports of "an accidental injury".

Firefighters were called to reports the man was trapped but when they arrived they discovered they were not needed.

A spokesman for Persimmon Homes, who are carrying out building work on the site, said: "The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the accident and Persimmon Homes will be assisting with any investigation."
