Detectives are appealing for information after a furniture store near Dartford was destroyed by a fire.

The Farningham Oak building in Farningham High Street caught fire at around 2.30am on November 6, and an investigation into its cause remains ongoing.

It is believed the fire may have initially started in a dog waste bin, which was attached to a lamppost, before it spread to the building, engulfing the site along with its entire stock and other contents.

Damage was also caused to neighbouring properties.

Officers have carried out house-to-house enquiries and CCTV and forensic checks are also continuing.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious is being urged to contact Kent Police. Residents and nearby businesses, who officers have yet to speak to, are also being asked to check for any CCTV footage they may have.

Owner Peter Dzierzek spoke to the Dartford Messenger in the aftermath of the blaze and said he was "absolutely choked" at the loss of the store but would seek to rebuild it.

The shop is set within an 18th-century barn dating back to 1755 and specialises in the sale of modern and rustic-style solid oak furniture.

Mr Dzierzek and wife Teresa moved into the premises from their corner shop, and had recently refurbuished the building, known locally as 'The Old Bull Store'.
