Residents and community members headed to London to celebrate 100 years of women having the vote in the United Kingdom.

Artists from Dartford and Gravesend, as well as members of the Northfleet Active Threads (NAT) group joined 30,000 others in the country’s capital for a march.

They brought handmade banners designed with inspirational women.

NAT’s Mandi Knight worked with her team to place Caroline Dryson – who signed the first mass petition in 1866 calling for votes from women – and Dr Elizabeth Knight, an active suffragette was on the banner.

Similarly, local artists, including Ruth Howard from Dartford, worked with Kinetika – an outdoor arts company – to create silk banners bearing images of women from the past, present and future.

Kinetika’s Creative Driector, Ali Pretty said: “It was an amazingly powerful experience to be amongst so many women’s organisations from across the nation.

“It demonstrates the potential we have when a creative call out mobilises us to come together.

“Let’s channel the energy that women have to empower local communities to play a vital role in transforming our country at such a crucial moment in global history.
