Filming for a new blockbuster has taken over another part of Kent.
Crews descended on The Hive housing estate in Northfleet, yesterday as tents were erected and a tattoo shop saw its signage changed for the cameras.
They were shooting scenes for Dartford-born director Andrea Arnold’s upcoming film called Bird.
Creative community manager for Northfleet Big Local, Mandi Knight, was able to watch some of the action.
She said: “They had tents up with belongings in and shops had frontages changed.
“They filmed a young girl running away from the tower block then stopping and looking up at a man on the roof. It was pretty fast paced.
“Residents were just going about their business and children were playing on the tyre swings and skate ramp.”
Film crews also shot in other locations in the town including in the High Street, College Road and the Hot Rod Diner, an authentic American 50’s restaurant .
Although the plot of Bird has been kept tightly underwraps, it is known that it is being directed by Andrea Arnold OBE, who won an Oscar for her short film Wasp in 2005 and comes from Dartford.
And Northfleet is not the first local filming location to be used in the production.
Residents of Page Close, in Bean, watched people running through alleyways and a police car racing up and down their road, earlier this week, as they shot scenes late at night.
BAFTA award-winning actor Barry Keoghan was also spotted in Gravesend town centre earlier this month shooting for the new production.
He is known for playing The Joker in The Batman and has also appeared in Dunkirk, Marvel’s Eternals and the criticially acclaimed Banshees of Inisherin.
