Bollywood glamour provided the backdrop for a ball that raised £14,000 for children’s charities.

The event at Woodville Halls was organised by friends who are running the London Marathon in aid of Get Kids Going (GKG), the NSPCC, and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Dr Manpinder Sahota, of Pelham Medical Practice, Gravesend, is running for GKG; Dr Mandeep Sahota, of Jubilee Medical Centre, Longfield, is running for the NSPCC; and Gravesend police constable Kulwinder Thind is running for GOSH.

They are taking part alongside two other friends from Gravesend, Manjit Bassra and Baljit Hayre, and two more from Gillingham, Sandeep and Sharon Rai, who are running for GKG.

People who turned out for the ball were treated to food and music and donated generously in a bid to win some fantastic raffle prizes, including signed football shirts from Robert Pirès and John Barnes.

They were donated by a number of local businesses, including Parrock Street Dental Practice, Elite Aesthetics, and Antonio and Giovanni hair stylists.

The London Marathon takes place on April 23.
