A teenage boy is alleged to have been driving at more than 100mph to avoid police after officers set off in pursuit following a suspected catalytic converter theft.

Three people were arrested – including a 15-year-old boy – following an incident in Gravesend on Monday night.

The vehicle was eventually stopped in Wrotham Road after officers laid down a stinger trap in the road to bring the car to a halt.

Police were called at 9.40pm on Monday to a report two men had been seen stealing a catalytic converter from a vehicle in Kings Drive.

A third person was seen in the vehicle which was seen driving away from the area.

Officers in an unmarked patrol car found the suspected vehicle on the A2 before it turned into Valley Drive.

The police officers signalled for the vehicle to stop but it is alleged the driver failed to do so and a pursuit was authorised.

The three occupants were arrested after the vehicle was stopped in Wrotham Road and police found a catalytic converter device in the boot of the car.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

Two men – aged 24 and 20 – were arrested in connection with the theft of a catalytic converter.

All three suspects have been released on bail.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have found any discarded phones or number plates in the area.
