The Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit remains a unique challenge according to Alex Brundle as the FIA Formula 2 Championship heads to Kent this weekend.

The 20-year-old, whose father is the former F1 legend and BBC commentator Martin Brundle, is one of five British drivers hoping a large home crowd will inspire them to victory in round five of the Formula One feeder series at Brands Hatch.

Brundle has plenty of experience racing around Brands Hatch and has already tasted victory at the venue, when he partnered his father Martin in a Radical sports car last month.

Despite the victory, the Norfolk-born driver is not about to rest on his laurels and admits the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit is one of the most difficult tracks to master.

Brundle said: “I would say the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit is one of the most challenging venues we visit in F2. You have to be committed through the fast stuff in an F2 car and there are also some technical bits and pieces to master.

"Every round and every race is important in a championship, but I would like to do well at home.”

After a dominant performance at Germany’s Nurburgring last time out, Italy’s Mirko Bortolotti leads the championship from Swiss driver Christopher Zanella. Brit, Will Bratt is fourth in the championship with Brundle lying in sixth.

The winner of the 2011 FIA Formula 2 Championship will receive the ultimate prize of a full test with the Williams F1 team, at Formula One's coveted end of season rookie tests.

The action gets under way on Friday with Formula 2 races taking place on both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available on the gate.
