A WOMAN managed to crawl free from this wreckage after reportedly clipping a car and flipping upside down.
Traffic was brought to a complete standstill after the S-reg Citroen Xsara is thought to have spun out of control and ended on its roof in The Terrace, Gravesend around 2.15pm.
Drivers rushed to the aid of the injured woman, believed to be the driver, before ambulance crews could reach the scene.
Pat Herbert, 48, of Gore Road, Dartford was one of the first on the scene.
She said: "I just saw the car turning and I heard a bump. I saw it flip I thought to myself is that happening?
"There was smoke just bellowing out of it."
Steel fixer Peter Wright, 55, went to woman's aid and had the sense to turn the engine off and remove the keys.
He said: "We saw this almighty bellowing of smoke and what sounded like a road roller.
"I just saw the car upside down. The woman was very shocked."
Police acted swiftly to ease congestion as traffic quickly backed up around the town centre's approach roads.
Cars were directed the wrong way down the one way system to free the backlog of traffic.
The diversion down Crooked Lane and up Princes Street continued until the road re-opened around 3.15pm.
The woman was taken to Darent Valley Hospital. Her condition is unknown but not thought to be serious.
